My wish list

elliottherman
suggested this on October 04, 2011 12:02

* Drop down menus, for things like shoe size, colour etc

* Multiple Shipping options in cart

* A tick box option that says they agree to terms and conditions etc etc (very useful for businesses!)

* Different categorys -  you shouldnt have to press 'Shop' to get to the catergories all your categories should be listed in the menu. (see my website www.kidzworld-toys.co.uk )

* Enter the availabe stock and once it reaches zero automatically dont accept any more orders and display out of stock.

* Option for customers to type in discount codes in the basket

* Alternative payments - not through PayPal!!

* be able to select more than one item at a time to delete

* Longer shop pages. I noticed that there was still a lot of room on my page but it came up with a page 2. Why not make the most of all that room!?

Its a long wish list I know - but the more the better :)

Hi,

The good news is, a fair amount of these are actually in the pipeline already - there's a list on the 'Known Issues' page of shopbeta.moonfruit.com. Those that aren't listed will be noted at this end :)

Hi, That's good to hear. Will categories goes live when it launches because at the moment It won't open when clicked? Thank you, Elliott

Hi Elliott,

Categories aren't currently slated for the next update, but they are on the list. Of course, this may change if it becomes clear that lots of people want it - we really are interested in seeing what everyone sees as a priority.

Hi Gary,

Thanks for the reply! Categories are a big thing to my online business and I wont be using the shop until this is avaialble.

Otherwise there is no organisation of the products and it means if you have a lot of products then customer have to trawl through the endless pages to find the product they want - a big turn off for customers.

Maybe moonfruit should place a poll on the shopbeta.moonfruit.com site?

Hi,

I can see what you mean. I did think about setting up a poll, but for now we're collating all requests in one place, so that we can easily see which requests are the most popular. If a few features end up equally popular, we could still put it to the public vote.

Gary

I'm interested in the shop feature - I'm planning to get to grips with a small shop site of my own once it's on full release, which I can use as an example to show clients.  But I see Categories as being a fundamental element of a shop site and I think it would be severely restricting if I couldn't offer it to clients.  Even the small "example" site I was planning to set up would need categories.  I can't imagine a shop without categories so hopefully it can be escalated up the list.

Suppose I build a site without categories now - to add categories later could be a major job, whereas if it's done at the start, it would probably be a lot easier.  Not that I want a site without categories, so I'm now thinking I'll wait until categories are introduced, which is disappointing.

Actually, and I've already slapped myself on the wrist for missing it, it is possible to vote on feature requests in this very forum - just click the 'Me too!' button at the top.

Lotusleaf: As I mentioned above, we are going to look at prioritising oft-requested features. Categories seems to be leading this at the moment, so I'll have a word with the powers that be and see what we can do ;)

Extensively read the beta comments and have a wish list similar to everyone else:

1) Categories

2) Discount codes assignable to product or category

3) Variable options, eg. buy 5k / 10k / 20k instead of making a new product for different quantity or a variable of sizing, colour, weight, etc

4) Shipping options based on a variable, eg. weight, total order value, discount code, product, category

5) Automated 'out of stock/not available' please!

6) Automatic discounting when order reaches a target value or quantity

7) 'Customers who bought this we're also interested in...'

Then my industry specifics (design & print)

1) Categories

2) Assign each item added to cart an order number.  The form option 'upload file' would have a field to allow data entry of order number.  This way a file can be associated with a product order - ideal if automated.  This feature would work for shirt shops, canvas printing, photographers etc

NOTES

On my beta www.hot.sm4.biz I've got around the categories thing (kind of) but have hit a wall with the current max. row/item numbers.  Will this be raised so I can actually launch and properly test my site?

I've noticed a vertical 'jumping' of the page content when scrolling the shop (Chrome, screen res. 1280x1024, page length 3000px).  Tested on 2 PCs in 2 browsers with same result.  Kind of jumps to the middle of the page then back to scroll bar position then jumps to middle again.  Bug?

Looking forward to you guys getting this rocking - it'll get you masses of new customers.  I've got a dozen in my current customer base who want to upgrade immediately!  Anyone got feedback for my in-progress please email me fhgd@aol.com or through hot.sm4.biz.

Hi,

Thanks very much for the detailed feedback. Of your first list, I can confirm that items 1-5 are already planned. The other two, I'll add to the list.

The ability to link the tool to an upload form isn't something that we've looked into, as far as I know, but I will certainly pass this suggestion on as well.

I'm afraid the jumping problem you describe is a known bug, although it does only appear on pages that are quite long. We are looking into it, and should have it permanently fixed at some point soon.

Gary

These are all things I think would make it even better for myself and my clients!  IT IS A FANTASTIC START AND I AM EXCITED TO SEE WHERE IT GOES!

Hi Gary,

Any time frame for adding variables? I sell photo prints and want to add options for size, frame colour, mount colour, etc.

Thanks,

Giles

So impressed with how hard Moonfruit & Co. have been working it recently.  Been on board since v3 and it seems there's a massive investment; I feel I'm getting excellent value.

Gary, how do you think Muse will affect Moonfruit?

I'm not sure it's going to have any effect at the moment, as it's still in beta. There are quite a few similar drag-and-drop HTML editors on the market already, so I would personally see it as more of a competitor to them. That's just my personal opinion, of course ^_~

Apart from categories and variable shipping which are in the pipeline, my next priority is for a Search facility.  On the draft shop I'm testing, I've tried adding the Google search widget but nothing comes up when I "search site" for a keyword that I know is there.

A tick-box for "Agree" to Terms & Conditions would also be good.  I don't need it for my test shop as the items are very low value, but if any of my clients have high value items they want to sell, they would probably think it crucial that customers agree to their T&Cs.

Automatic downloads would be a good feature for the future.

I think that reading the above comments most essential shop tools have been requested already. I feel the most important are catergories, drop down menus for pricing and size are another good one.  some other great ideas above but a shop really needs catergories and drop down prices and product size menus. The shipping options request would also be great, maybe more options for checkout as Paypal has limitations.  The shopbuilder is a great idea and warmly welcomed, but of little use for my products which include clothing and sportware. I eagerly await future updates, until then my shop will have to waut.

I have one item for sale in my shop, when someone busy that item does the item still stay there for other people to buy although the item has now been sold!! Does the system delete that item automatically or show it sold straight away, or will I have to refund a lot of people?

Hello Gary,

I can creat categories for my products now and I did that and put my related products in the respective category, but when I view my site,I didn't see any category,so I want to know why?

Another service I want to use is the link for table,to be specifically the cells in the table. Even not possible for category service right now,I can creat category with table (Please check: http://www.rollformingdesign.com/#/products-catalogue/4557524607),but the problem is I can't add link for the products in the cell to my product page.

Is there anyone to help me do this?

Please help.

Thanks,
Tony

Hello Gary

The shop builder is brilliant and has lit a fire up my behind that i needed to really push on with my business venture. I wish i had seen this before sending in my request.

Item variables is certainly and essential for me as im selling clothes and skates so i would be able to increase on the number of items i can sell.
Also shipping variables because to send out a set of laces would obviously be cheaper than sending out a pair of skates.

Really looking forward this getting finished :D

All the recent changes you have been making to moonfruit has kept me with you :D

Hi madphat,

It was due to come out today, but we've temporarily postponed the release due to a file server issue. I'll update the 'Announcements' forum when we have a new release date, but you don't have too long to wait.

Gary
