I think what you guys have in store for the store is great =)
But I can't use it unless the products can be organized into categories and are searchable by customers.
The amount of products that I will be listing is an awful lot for a customer to try to sort through to figure out what they want.
Also a featured products area and best sellers area is something pretty common with online shops.
I really hope that these features are with in the realm of possibility because I am having the hardest time finding a shop to integrate properly with my moonfruit site that has all the features I need to get my business up and going. It would be so perfect if I had what I needed all from one place. Great work on everything so far , excited to see where you guys take it.

Same for me! Categories is a must, followed by a search feature!
Hi,
Thanks for the feedback - categories aren't currently due in the next update, but they are on the list, and may well move up it if the demand is great enough. We don't have a featured products or best sellers list planned just yet, but I will bring this up.

Same here, I am in the throws of designing and setting up my website, I have signed up for the Shop beta today. I had already designed different pages for diefferent product categories but now I'm having to add each product to the shop I can't assign them to a category they will all be mixed together on 1 page. Is that right? I can't add categories at this point?
Categories is surely a prerequisite for a successful online store.
If there is a substantial amount of products for sale a customer will want to be able to find what they are looking for as quickly and easily as possible. Without being able to list products in categories, the online store is no better than the existing system just using Paypal buttons.
I do hope that Moonfruits online store will be a better effort than the mobile HTML view.
I totaly agree with badcowboy. I think moonfruit just made it rush on shop and so they could not improve enough feature to atract new customer or existing ones. So product category is must
I've left a comment on a different thread, but to keep all the comments on one place, I think Categories are an essential feature of a shop and I wouldn't want to offer the facility to clients without it.
Hi all,
Thanks again for the feedback - as I've mentioned in a couple of places, we do have some flexibility to 'bump' certain features if it becomes clear that they are more important than others.
kayaerhan3 - it's probably worth re-iterating that ShopBuilder is still in the beta phase of development, so there are a few known bugs and missing features. However, we already have a fairly comprehensive list of additions for the next update, which is slated for the latter half of next week.
HTH,
Gary
would need categories for my shop to operate properly too! keep up the good work
Categories please. I don't think you can really create a shop without them - unless you only plan to sell a single product!
Looking forward to seeing it included in the next release ;)
To the Team at Moonfruit,
I think this is possibly my first ever comment as I normally manage to figure things out for myself, although I think I need to voice my concern regarding the lack of priority being allocated to categories & search inclusion to the shop builder release.
I was very excited when I got wind of the fabled 'e-commerce' being integrated within the sitemaker system. Having tried out some different sectors and styles on the shop beta e.g; clothing ranges, hardware goods etc, I have found it both unsettling and bemusing that categories & search have not been seen as a major enough priority to have included with the launch. All it has really done for us is in essence place a widget style tool bar option into the sitemaker build area and to place a mini photo-galllery attached to a paypal link. By not having categories equals to more workarounds with slower loading pages to achieve the same level of functionality as competing e-commerce software. Whilst I have been a loyal follower of Moonfruit (for many moons might I add) , I think they may have dropped the ball on this one.
I am looking forward to the proposed release date for categories & search to see if it will be realistic to plan any commerce projects. By not having categories or search the user is limited to what can only be described as a jumble sale presentation, with no clear direction for navigation apart from the number of pages to search through at the bottom of the screen. I understand the constraints that Moonfruit are under and truly what they have created thus far is remarkable however the competition is getting intense and USP's and Value-added propositions that can be scaled are the mainstays in today's marketplace.
Therefore I would suggest a clear indication of ETA for categories & search, or either and an idea of unit limits for various tariffs of moonfruit membership to be communicated to members so time and resources can be fairly allocated and justified.
Kind Regards,
William.
Hi
I was also pleased to see that "eCommerce" was going to become available but the first thing I looked for was where to set up categories. The whole point of the new feature is so everything is integrated and looks good but with products that are totally different from each other, it would just look a mess.
Categories should be at the top of the list followed by a search bar for those that have lots of items to sell. This feature will be massive if you get the categories added asap.
Hi all,
I'm afraid that categories did not make it onto the current development cycle, so they won't be added before the launch. However, they will be top of the list on the next cycle, which starts the day after. We are aiming to have them added within 2-3 weeks of this.
