Facebook will be making a change to their API on the 12th September. In short, the App Key - currently used for Facebook Connect - is being replaced with the newer App ID.
Today, we have rolled out a small update in anticipation of this change. In most cases, nothing will need to be done. However, if any of the below apply to you, you should keep reading.
You will need to edit your current settings if:
- You have your own domain name assigned to your site
- You have set up Facebook Connect with your own App settings, but do not have a domain name
If the first situation applies, you will need to visit your Facebook App page, copy the new App ID, and apply it to your site. If you go to People -> Settings and click on Update, a link will be provided to the correct page. Simply paste the App ID into the prompt.
If the second situation applies, you will need to assign a domain name to your site, as we will no longer be able to support this setup. If this is not done, we will revert the site to the generic Facebook Connect settings automatically.
I will leave this FAQ open for any questions that might arise. If your question isn't related to this change, please start a new thread.

I tried to locate my site's app on facebook. I don't know where I would find this, so I created an app and I tried entering the app ID I was given, but the ID box just appears red, with no instructions on what to fix or do next. Help!
I had the same problem. I've tried to enter my app ID over and over again and it's not recognizing it at all. It says that my website needs to have a secure http address. stuck :(
I am a domain owner, and I am still having issues after doing what was suggested above.
Me too I am a domain owner have followed all the instructions I can find and it still comes up invalid, I have tried deleting the app and trying again, that didnt work have also tried reseting the secret key but that didnt work either PLEASE ADVISE
I figured it out. If you go to the admin button along the top bar and click it. You will see a side bar come up that has a button called "site address." Once you click on that you will see an option at the bottom to chose your "Preferred Site address". Chose one, then try your facebook connect app id and secret key again. Hope this helps. come visit my site if you get a chance www.opinionposts.com.
