my domain points correctly but preffered website address is still moonfruit

Hi,

On Friday (5th) I instructed my domain name provider to change the DNS record for penso.co.uk and penso.uk.com so that they point to penso.moonfruit.com, which is now working when entering the domains into the explorer address bar, but when I go into Sitemaker; Admin > Site Address, the dialog box states that the pointing is not pointing to the correct IP address, and therefore I cannot set penso.co.uk as my preferred address.

Please help me in understanding why this is the case, and how I can fix the issue as soon as possible.

Many thanks,

Pete.

Hi Pete,

It looks like you have used framed forwarding, rather than pointing the 'www' record at our server - this is why the Site address panel is throwing up an error.

I have set www.penso.co.uk as the preferred address manually, but would recommend against using framed forwarding.

Gary

Hi Gary, thanks for the information. Now that the preferred address has been changed to www.penso.co.uk, the site is now not functioning at all (It appears to be constantly refreshing a blank page). I think this is due to the 'Framed Forwarding' - so whilst I contact the domain name provider to get them to change the 'www' record, could I ask that you manually change the preferred site address back to www.penso.moonfruit.com please? i will then set the preferred address after the pointing issue has been resolved.

Many thanks,

Pete.

Hi Pete,

It looks like it has been un-set already, so I guess you were able to log in. Once the DNS changes have taken effect, you should be able to set it again.

Gary

Hi epragroup,

This can be done, but we would need to release the 'handle' that contains both of your domains back to Gandi, the registrar. You would then be able to log into their site and point the domain name as necessary.

We can't reverse the release of the handle, but it doesn't effect your existing website. If you'd like me to do this, please confirm by reply.

Thanks,

Gary

I have changed the C/NAME to point my domain name " soundsfantasticdisco.com to  soundsfantasticdisco.moonfruit.com   and also pointed the my domain A RECORD to 146.101.249.107   but on the C/NAME control panel is still says " punblishing, yet the A RECORD says " published"   why is this.

Hi,

I can't see any valid DNS records for this domain name - you might want to speak to the company hosting it for you, as it sounds like you have set it up correctly.

Hi Gary

The strange thing is, i can add the name " soundsfantasticdisco.com"  to the moonfruit admin control pannel and that one works, but that domain without the www. is only showing in the hostname sever boxes on the Melbourn it site. The C/name and A record settings are still saying " publishing", so i am not sure how i am able to use the " soundsfantasticdisco.com  without the www.

Are you sure i cant just point the hostname server settings, they look like this at the moment

Hostname                                                               Address

soundsfantastic disco.com                                 ns1.secure.net.                             86400               published

soundsfantasticdisco.com                                  ns2.secure.net.                             86400               published

Thanks

Hi,

Unfortunately, we can only serve a domain name from our nameservers if it is actually hosted here. I am still not seeing any valid DNS records for your domain name, so would suggest contacting your hosting company's support team.

Gary

Hi godav,

The DNS for your domain name is already set up in the optimum way. If you're having trouble with the speed of your site, can you start a new thread or send a ticket through to Support?

Thanks,

Gary
