I keep getting a "Sorry we can't build your website" message, every time I attempt to set up my website. What am I doing wrong?
I see that you have not yet built a website.
Click the 'Add site' link when you log into your account at: www.moonfruit.com and select a template, then select 'Click to build'. This will take you to a panel where you can add a site name and a site address. Please note that the site address will be in the format: yourname.moonfruit.com and that you only supply the 'yourname' part - the .moonfruit.com is added automatically. Then click 'Launch my site'.
If that does not work, please reply here.

I am also having the same trouble adding a name?
still not working.... i understand i havent got a domain yet. when i go to add site name it says that is is unable to do so. The site address in the next box is fine!!!
The site name has to be composed of characters a-z and digits 1-9. What are you attempting to enter?
Hi Geoff, every time I try to add the name of the site, the system does not accept the name and I get a message saying "We cannot build your website" or something to that effect. So, basically I cannot get any further than the intial point of choosing the template and naming it. Please help!
I'll test the website creation process on your account.... Okay, so I have set up a dummy website on your account - forumpost.moonfruit.com on a Simple template. Please log into your account and check that you can find it. Then open the website and go to the Admin tab on the toolbar and select 'Delete site'.
Next , try the process again. The site name and the website address have to be composed of letters a-z and numbers 0-9. You only enter the first part of the URL e.g. forumpost, as the .moonfruit.com is added automatically. If that does not work, please give me the site name and address that you want, and select the template and I'll set that up from here.
I am also having this problem. It would be nice if there was a reason given when you're told "Sorry, we can not build your site". It leaves the user scratching their head only to keep trying the same thing over again.
Thanks for the help!
What template, site name and site address were you trying to choose? If you attempt to create a website address that we already have on our system, you will receive an error message.
thank you for your help with this, however I am still no further. I am trying to set up a site name as Elizabeth House or 131 Elizabeth House if other is not available. When I enter info same error messgae occurs.
Please can you help
My site I am trying to create has to do with wellness, and I was trying to use the Silverlight template. If it's because the name is already taken, do I just have to keep trying new combinations in order to find an available name? Is there any sort of suggestion tool that can help me with this?
If this is the reason I can't create the site, maybe you should have a separate error message that says "Sorry but this name is not taken".
I was able to find an acceptable combination. All set!
Im having the same frustrating issue.. and i have had many sites threw Moonfruit before they made changes to the site, i never had this problem in the past. Its very frustrating. The name i am trying to use it Written Words, but i have also tried UGh and pahsofnho and still says the same thing.. i highly doubt there is already a site named pahsofnho please help!!!
The address: elizabethhouse.moonfruit.com was already registered on our records, but I see that you managed to set up: 131elizabethhouse.moonfruit.com as your URL.
The URL: writtenwords.moonfruit.com is already in existence on our system.
Please ive done all of the above and it is stil doing it!
You already have a website: haloo.moonfruit.com on your Free account. You would have to delete that if you wanted to create another one.
I've just deleted my poppired site as I want to start again with a new template but I have the above problem
I have the same error. 'sorry we cant build your site'. Erm why not? I'm not using any strange %'s or $'s. Just letters. Can someone help? :-)
what name you trying to use?
The error in question is usually seen when the site address (as opposed to the site name) is already in use. We will be updating the error message soon to make it a little more helpful.
I've tried the most random user names you can think of, theres no chance they're taken already. There must be another error. Can you shed some light?
Can you give me two or three examples of the addresses you tried to set up?
That is a little odd - can you confirm that you are entering those into the Site Address field, as opposed to Site Name? Can you also let me know what browser you are using?
sorry i meant the error occurs next to 'site name'
Thanks for the info. I have just been able to create tmcatering.moonfruit.com on your account, so it definitely wasn't in use. Are you using Safari on Windows or Mac OS?
I have tried so many different combinations of names - and I get the same message - highly frustrating and very annoying that I paid up front but can't build my website while I wait for my domain name to be transfered over.
It looks like you have been able to set up two sites now - as above, can you give me a couple of examples of addresses that were rejected?
Hi I Have the same problem i have tried all of the above and tried many different site names but keep getting the same message
As above, can you give us a couple of examples of addresses that you have tried to use?
same problem... i tried Salone Microfinance Trust and salonemicrofinancetrust as url.... It has taken a week for the templates to display... my web service is rather slow.... but it is frustating that the pop up does do not say what the problem is... it displays by the name.... I have to get a site up very soon... am trying other services but I am very familiar with moonfruit... would like to get trial up before upgrading... ept
You seem to have an active site on your account already, with that address. If you log into moonfruit.com with the username you are using here, you will be able to access the editor.
I am having what sounds like exactly the same problem. I started with free, just upgraded to Premium in order to build a second site, and very frustratingly having paid my money, the first thing that happens is that I try to start a site and all that comes up is "Sorry we can't build your site". Like others, I have tried, letters, numbers, nonsense words galore for the name. The site name I tried doesn't exist, but the main point here is that we get just this message with no reason why, and therefore have no idea what to do! VERY frustrating. PLEASE help.
I have tried any number of names, and the site name I want is msw (.moonfruit, for now).com. Please can I/we have an explanation, or some guidance of what the problem might be when this message comes up? There seems to be nothing to do now, and I do want to use Moonfruit.
It looks like msw.moonfruit.com does exist, and it was created a couple of days ago. Do you have any other accounts with us?
Thankyou for your speedy response. You're right - someone's got msw.moonfruit.com now! Oh well. It would be good if the error message said "Sorry... because this domain is already taken". But thankyou for looking into it and letting me know.
I would now wonder, if I really wanted msw.com, and this person doesn't particularly want a paying site, could I start my site under another name, for example www.michaelsolomonwilliams.moonfruit.com, and then use a voucher to buy www.msw.com and change it to that, if it's available?
I do have an account with you - sustantivos.moonfruit.com. I was hoping to make at least three sites with this account, with three different names.
You can perhaps see why I was keen on msw! Do you think this way round is possible, if it's still available when I go to "buy" the domain? I suppose I could try that now.
Yes, that could work - the free address that you choose when setting the site up doesn't have to be anything to do with the domain name, as the latter will override the former.
msw.com appears to be registered to someone elsewhere on the 'net, but you may be able to find a variation with a different extension. The Register page will show you the availability of your chosen domain.
Hi, I am having the same issue. I am trying to set up the website miracurehealth.moonfruit.com and i am getting the Sorry we can't build your site. Please try again.'
could you delete the alternative health name i have registered ?
The URL: miracurehealth.moonfruit.com is already taken on our system.
Please confirm that you wish us to delete the website: alternativehealth.moonfruit.com from your account.
Having this same issue.
Also, can i change the name later in the process?
Yes, providing the site address is available. You will need to send in a support ticket and we can help with this.
i am having exactly the same issue....very frustrating
I see that you managed to create the website: icerun2012.moonfruit.com shortly after sending this in.
This is so frustrating, whats the point of Moonfruit at all , if you cant even build a site,,,,,,,thats the whole damn point of it.
Its pretty obvious to anyone that there is a problem with the site,,, But what peeves me is that instead of sorting the problem once and for all, moonfruit just seem to offer individuals on the forum ` different things to try`.
"Sorry we can't build your site. Please try again." ........... ok,,, but why ????????
The message is generated when a user chooses a primary site address that already exists on our system. The solution is to enter another site address.
Thanks for the useful feedback. I'll find out if we can change that message to something more informative.
Thanks Geoff ,,,, But i tried the most obscure address in the world ever,,,,, ( Just to experiment ) and STILL got the same message. After 2 hours trying,,, I finally got in. Then,,, if you thought that was complicated,,, try choosing a shop site ,,, and try adding a new category,, then try and put certain products into that particular category. Unbelievably complicated !!!! .. it should be as easy as for example ) ... SITE = supermarket ..... CATEGORY = food. ...... Sub CATEGORY = Bread ........ PRODUCT = Wholemeal Slived Loaf . !!!!
At this rate i`ll starve to death ................ ever seen a computer do 60 miles per hour down a garden ?? ... I will ,very very soon.
it should really be as simple as......... for example,,,,,
Ignore that las bit just above the date,,, ... "it should really be as simple as......... for example,,,,,
Supermarket . " ...... dont know how that happened.
Sliced loaf,,,,,not slived,,,,,,,,,,,, heheheheh
But at least i didnt blame the phone ( jenny ) ........... hehehehehe
Did you investigate: http://support.moonfruit.com/entries/20559143-how-do-i-add-categories before you booted the laptop down the garden?
ok. i kept getting this error.
changed the url name. and it worked. althoough it says the error isn't there. hope this helps
I have the same problem
I wanted to use Barngate as site name and address
cannot use Barngate
Barngate bed and breakfast
I see a: barngate.moonfruit.com website on a: barngate Trial account. Have you now succeeded in creating your website, or were you trying to open a new account with the same name? That would not work.
I'm having the same issue...
blazingneedles is the name I am trying to use. I own the domain name blazingneedles.net
It looks like you were able to set a site up with this address around the time of your post - is it working for you now?
After I sent this question, I closed the message window that said I couldn't build the site - behind/underneath that window was a window that said it had been created.
That's very odd, but thanks for letting us know - I'll see if this is a known issue.
I created jupitertravel.moonfruit.com yesterday. But I want to try a different template for my website. Could you please delete jupitertravel.moonfruit.com so that I can re-use the address?
Hi - rmaramis.
I have replied to your query in the ticket you have submitted.
