Hi,

I see that you have not yet built a website.

Click the 'Add site' link when you log into your account at: www.moonfruit.com and select a template, then select 'Click to build'. This will take you to a panel where you can add a site name and a site address. Please note that the site address will be in the format: yourname.moonfruit.com and that you only supply the 'yourname' part - the .moonfruit.com is added automatically. Then click 'Launch my site'.

If that does not work, please reply here.

Kind regards

Hi,

The site name has to be composed of characters a-z and digits 1-9. What are you attempting to enter?

Hi Geoff, every time I try to add the name of the site, the system does not accept the name and I get a message saying "We cannot build your website" or something to that effect.  So, basically I cannot get any further than the intial point of choosing the template and naming it.  Please help!

Hi mgh-training,

I'll test the website creation process on your account.... Okay, so I have set up a dummy website on your account - forumpost.moonfruit.com on a Simple template. Please log into your account and check that you can find it. Then open the website and go to the Admin tab on the toolbar and select 'Delete site'.

Next , try the process again. The site name and the website address have to be composed of letters a-z and numbers 0-9. You only enter the first part of the URL e.g. forumpost, as the .moonfruit.com is added automatically. If that does not work, please give me the site name and address that you want, and select the template and I'll set that up from here.

Regards

Geoff

I am also having this problem. It would be nice if there was a reason given when you're told "Sorry, we can not build your site". It leaves the user scratching their head only to keep trying the same thing over again.

Thanks for the help!

Hi agermanucf,

What template, site name and site address were you trying to choose? If you attempt to create a website address that we already have on our system, you will receive an error message.

Hello Geoff,

My site I am trying to create has to do with wellness, and I was trying to use the Silverlight template. If it's because the name is already taken, do I just have to keep trying new combinations in order to find an available name? Is there any sort of suggestion tool that can help me with this?

If this is the reason I can't create the site, maybe you should have a separate error message that says "Sorry but this name is not taken".

Thanks,

Andy

Hi all,

The error in question is usually seen when the site address (as opposed to the site name) is already in use. We will be updating the error message soon to make it a little more helpful.

Hi Gary

What I'm doing is logging in, choosing a template, selecting it, then the box comes up to enter a username and a site name. I enter both, and then a box next to username tells me the error message. most frustrating as we need to get this website done.
it's funny because it has worked before, but after seeing the templates on a full screen we've decided against them and deleted the site.
browser - safari
thanks for any help

Hello Moonfruit,

I am having what sounds like exactly the same problem. I started with free, just upgraded to Premium in order to build a second site, and very frustratingly having  paid my money, the first thing that happens is that I try to start a site and all that comes up is "Sorry we can't build your site". Like others, I have tried, letters, numbers, nonsense words galore for the name. The site name I tried doesn't exist, but the main point here is that we get just this message with no reason why, and therefore have no idea what to do! VERY frustrating. PLEASE help.

I have tried any number of names, and the site name I want is msw (.moonfruit, for now).com. Please can I/we have an explanation, or some guidance of what the problem might be when this message comes up? There seems to be nothing to do now, and I do want to use Moonfruit.

Thanks,

Michael

Gary,

Thankyou for your speedy response. You're right - someone's got msw.moonfruit.com now! Oh well. It would be good if the error message said "Sorry... because this domain is already taken". But thankyou for looking into it and letting me know.

I would now wonder, if I really wanted msw.com, and this person doesn't particularly want a paying site, could I start my site under another name, for example www.michaelsolomonwilliams.moonfruit.com, and then use a voucher to buy www.msw.com and change it to that, if it's available?

I do have an account with you - sustantivos.moonfruit.com. I was hoping to make at least three sites with this account, with three different names.

You can perhaps see why I was keen on msw! Do you think this way round is possible, if it's still available when I go to "buy" the domain? I suppose I could try that now.

Thanks,

Michael

Hi Michael,

Yes, that could work - the free address that you choose when setting the site up doesn't have to be anything to do with the domain name, as the latter will override the former.

msw.com appears to be registered to someone elsewhere on the 'net, but you may be able to find a variation with a different extension. The Register page will show you the availability of your chosen domain.

Gary

This is so frustrating, whats the point of Moonfruit at all , if you cant even build a site,,,,,,,thats the whole damn point of it.

Its pretty obvious to anyone that there is a problem with the site,,, But what peeves me is that instead of sorting the problem once and for all, moonfruit just seem to offer individuals on the forum ` different things to try`.

"Sorry we can't build your site. Please try again."  ........... ok,,, but why ????????

I trief all sorts. With of without capital, all in capitals, with or without spaces etc. I assumed it would tell me if the name wad in use so thought I was doing it wrong.

SITE = supermarket .....  CATEGORY = food. ...... Sub CATEGORY = Bread ........ PRODUCT =   Wholemeal Slived Loaf .     !!!!

At this rate i`ll starve to death  ................   ever seen a computer do 60 miles per hour down a garden ??  ... I will ,very very soon.

it should really be as simple as......... for example,,,,,
